Home

At one point in our lives we feared having a child with special needs more than anything.  Would we be able to handle it?  What accomodations would we have to make?  Are we in the best school district?  Most parents fear this.  Our fears quickly changed and became reality on April 8, 2007.  Just 4 days shy of our scheduled c-section.  For nine months we were told that everything looked great and that our baby was healthy.  Then on Easter Sunday while other families were hunting for Easter eggs and eating candy, we were at the hospital hunting for a heartbeat.  I hadn't felt my little kicker much that day, which was very unusual!  We never thought that I would be strapped to a monitor to hear silence.  I remember screaming, "NO, I can handle a disability, but I can't handle death."  WOW, how quickly your mind and body wants to change your fears!  Our final moments of Easter Sunday were spent holding, dressing, and embracing our angel.

Alyssa Rose Swope was born sleeping on April 8, 2007.

We will always have an angel with us!  (This picture was taken at the candle-lighting ceremony on 10/15/2007 in honor of Alyssa - do you see our angel? She was there!)

"An Angel in the book of Life wrote down our Daughters birth and whispered as she closed the book, Too Precious for this Earth."

What We Inspire to Do

Children with special needs have always had a special part of our hearts.  I work as a Developmental Interventionist who serves children ages birth to three with special needs.  We constantly talk about ways to help families, because we can only imagine how hard it must be.  Alyssa has inspired us to create this foundation.  The purpose of this foundation is to raise money for "wish lists".  There are many families that struggle with providing the best possible care for their children and with ways of getting the therapeutic equipment that their children need.  To honor Alyssa Rose, we have established the SPREADING THE WINGS OF ANGELS FOUNDATION to assist families in getting this special therapeutic equipment that they need.  It may be a communication device to help them say "mommy, I love you." or a walker to get to the playground.  We hope to help as many children as possible.  We will be asking therapists to submit nominations.  The nominations will include information about the child and DETAILED information about the equipment needed.
